Kayla Kenney Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll
PROVIDENCE, R.I - It has been a big week for freshman forward Kayla Kenney who racked up three goals, an assist and now a BIG EAST Honor Roll mention as announced by the conference Monday morning. Kenney had an all-star performance against La Salle and St. Francis last week, tallying seven points and registering eight shots on goal during the two-game span. This is the third week in a row a Wildcat has been named to the Honor Roll.
The Wildcats (4-2) went 2-1 last week, suffering their only loss to #1 ranked UNC. On Wednesday night, Villanova beat La Salle 3-2. It was in that contest Kenney got not only her first collegiate point with an assist on Leah High's goal, but also notched her first two collegiate scores, notably netting the game-winner for the Wildcats. Friday night against St. Francis, Kenney again shot the game-winning goal to give Villanova a 2-1 edge over the Red Flash. Kenney is ranked second (tied) in the BIG EAST with two game-winning goals.
Also named on the Honor Roll were Louisville's Erin Conrad and Becca Maddock, Syracuse's Emma Russell and Providence's Henni Tietze.
Connecticut swept the weekly awards as Marie Elena Bolles earned her second-consecutive Offensive Player of the Week nod and goalie Sarah Mansfield took Defensive Player of the Week.
Kenney and the rest of Villanova's squad will see their first BIG EAST action of the season when they travel to #2 Syracuse Friday at 4 PM. The Wildcats will also play Kent State at Syracuse Saturday at noon.
