VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova field hockey returns home Wednesday to take on the Rider Broncs at Villanova Stadium at 7 p.m.

The Broncs (2-0) are Villanova's second MAAC opponent of the season. The Wildcats (0-2) are still looking for their first win of the season.

The Wildcats opened the season last Saturday at home against Sacred Heart. Junior forward Jessica Swoboda scored first for the `Cats, but the Pioneers answered back in the second half on a Christine Mace goal. Stephanie Frye added another with less than five minutes in the game to seal the win for Sacred Heart.

Villanova Field Hockey Falls to Defending NEC Champs at Rider
Determined to clinch their third straight win of the season, the Wildcats came up short in the 2-0 loss to the Rider Broncs on Friday afternoon. Coming into the contest, Villanova was up against an undefeated at home (over two seasons) Broncs squad who added another victory to their 18-0 record at Ben Cohen Field.

Villanova returned to action Sunday against No. 1 North Carolina in Newark, Del. The Tar Heels won the contest, 10-0. Senior goalkeeper Alex Diekmann made 12 saves in the game.

Scouting the Broncs
Rider is 2-0 on the season coming into Wednesday's game. The Broncs opened the season with a 3-2 win over Colgate last Friday. The Broncs trailed by a goal going into the second half and rallied with three straight goals from freshmen. Rider traveled to College Park, Md., to take on Georgetown on Sunday and returned home with a 4-1 win. The Broncs scored four goals in the first half.

Freshmen forwards Nicole Hareau and Kalyn O'Brien have each scored two goals for Rider, while senior forward Sandra Penas has one goal and two assists. The Broncs were voted to win the inaugural Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship, while Penas was named the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year.

The Wildcats fell to Rider, 0-2, last season in Lawrenceville, N.J. Villanova is 6-8-1 all-time against the Broncs.
