Villanova, Pa. - The Villanova field hockey team fell just shy of inclusion on the preseason STX/NFHCA Division I poll released Aug. 21. The Wildcats received 66 votes.

VU finished 2005 ranked #15 in the nation, the first national ranking in program history. The Wildcats won their second BIG EAST regular season title after going 15-5 overall and 4-1 in BIG EAST conference play. 'Nova defeated Syracuse in the conference tournament semifinals before falling 3-2 in overtime to the Connecticut Huskies.

Five of the Wildcats' 2006 opponents appear in this poll. Villanova plays #12 University of Iowa on Sept. 9, #5 University of North Carolina on Sept. 10, #9 UConn on Sept. 17, #3 Duke University at Drexel on Oct. 9, and #14 University of Louisville on Oct. 14.
