Villanova, Pa. – The Villanova field hockey team was picked to finish fifth in the BIG EAST 2014 Preseason Coaches’ Poll on Wednesday, August 20. Wildcat senior Maddy Harding (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks) was also selected to the preseason All-BIG EAST Team. The news came via a conference press release.
The Wildcats finished 2013 with a 4-13 mark. Harding earned her first nod to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team after being named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team at the conclusion of the 2013 campaign. The Villanova captain started all 17 games at back for the Wildcats with eight goals, 19 points and 58 total recorded shots. The senior back also notched two defensive saves.
The 2013 NCAA National Champions, Connecticut, were picked atop of the conference Coaches’ Poll in the field of six, receiving five first-place votes.
League play begins on Oct. 3 when Villanova visits Old Dominion. The BIG EAST Championship is slated for Nov. 7 and 9 at Providence College’s Lennon Family Field, with the top four seeds qualifying.
