VILLANOVA, PA. ----- In its first spring tournament of the 2002 off-season, the Villanova field hockey team captured the championship of the University of Delaware 7-Aside Spring Fling with a 2-1 victory over the Delaware Gold Team. The tournament, which included eight collegiate teams, was played in Newark, Del., on the campus of the University of Delaware.

The eight teams were divided into two pools with four teams each. The top two teams in each pool advanced to the final four featuring the top two teams in each division.

Villanova finished the weekend with a perfect 5-0 record and outscored its opponents 12-4. The Wildcats cruised through their pool defeating Lehigh (2-0), Delaware Blue (3-1), and University of Pennsylvania (3-1).
