VILLANOVA, Pa. -
The National Field Hockey Coaches' Association released their National Academic Squad today and six Wildcats earned their way onto that list. These six players each achieved a GPA of 3.30 or greater in the fall semester.
The six players recognized were: Celise Feller, Amy Jackson, Olivia Maggitti, Christine Lafferty, Lauren Wilson, and Jessica Swoboda.
The No. 3 seed Villanova Wildcats (5-11, 2-3 BIG EAST) will take on the No. 2 seed Temple Owls (7-12, 3-2 BIG EAST) in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Tournament at the L.R. Sports Complex on the campus of Old Dominion University Friday afternoon at 4 PM. This game marks the first time the Wildcats have returned to the BIG EAST Tournament since 2011. The Wildcats will be seeking their 2nd conference championship, their first came in 1990.
Three Wildcat’s were named to the All-BIG EAST Field Hockey Teams on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore Francesca Bello made the All-BIG EAST First Team while senior captain Kayla Kenney and junior Kristen Mericle earned spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team. The news came via a conference press release this afternoon.
The student-athlete of the month is chosen each month by the university's Awards Committee that looks at the accomplishments of each athlete in the classroom and in their respective sport.
Freshman goalkeeper Erika Miller was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the second week in a row Monday afternoon; while junior Courtney Devine was named to the Weekly Honor Roll
The Villanova field hockey team (5-11, 2-3 BIG EAST) dropped their final game of the season in overtime 3-2 to fellow BIG EAST team Temple (7-12, 3-2 BIG EAST) Saturday afternoon.
For the first time since 2011 the Villanova field hockey team has clinched a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament.
The Villanova field hockey (5-10, 2-2 BIG EAST) will play their last regular season game Saturday afternoon at 12 PM vs. fellow BIG EAST team the Temple Owls (6-12, 2-2 BIG EAST) at Villanova Stadium.
Thursday afternoon Phliafieldhockey.com announced that freshman goalkeeper Erika Miller was named as one of their Defenders of the Week.
