The National Field Hockey Coaches' Association released their National Academic Squad today and six Wildcats earned their way onto that list. These six players each achieved a GPA of 3.30 or greater in the fall semester.
The six players recognized were: Celise Feller, Amy Jackson, Olivia Maggitti, Christine Lafferty, Lauren Wilson, and Jessica Swoboda.
The Villanova field hockey team (4-14, 1-4 BIG EAST) fell in a non-conference, neutral site matchup to the Quinnipiac Bobcats (8-10, 3-2 MAAC) by the final of 4-2 from Vonnie Gros Field in West Chester, Pa on Saturday afternoon.
The Villanova field hockey team (4-13, 1-4 BIG EAST) fell to the Providence Friars (11-8, 2-3 BIG EAST) on Saturday by the final of 7-0 after Providence scored six goals in the second half. The game concludes conference play for the Wildcats this season as `Nova plays a final, non-conference game tomorrow, Sun., Nov. 2 against the Quinnipiac Bobcats at Vonnie Gros Field in West Chester, Pa.
The Villanova field hockey team (4-12, 1-3 BIG EAST) hosts Providence (10-8, 1-3 BIG EAST) at Villanova Stadium on Sat., Nov. 1 in a crucial conference game that decides the fate of the No. 4 seed in the BIG EAST Championship. The Wildcats will then host the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Sun., Nov. 2 at Vonnie Gros Field, located on the campus of West Chester University in West Chester, Pa. for the regular-season finale. Both games start at noon.
Freshman goalkeeper Jordyn Clipstone was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon for her 2-1 overtime win in the cage over Georgetown this past Friday to help the Wildcats' chances with a BIG EAST Championship berth heading down the stretch of the season. Junior forward Kayla Kenney was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for her two-goal performance in the OT win, including the game-winning score.
Behind two goals by junior Kayla Kenney (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South), the Villanova Wildcats field hockey team (4-10, 1-2 BIG EAST) defeated the Georgetown Hoyas (4-9, 0-3 BIG EAST) in a BIG EAST matchup on Friday evening at Villanova Stadium by the final of 2-1 in overtime.
The Villanova field hockey team (4-12, 1-3 BIG EAST) dropped a non-conference matchup to the Penn Quakers (7-7, 2-3 Ivy) on Tuesday evening by the final of 2-1 at Villanova Stadium. Villanova sophomore midfielder Kristen Mericle notched the lone goal for the Wildcats in the second half to tie the game at 1-1. It came as the first career goal for Mericle.
The Villanova field hockey team (4-11, 1-3 BIG EAST) will host the Penn Quakers (6-7, 2-3 IVY) on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. from Villanova Stadium. The game will be available to stream via Nova Nation All-Access.
The Villanova field hockey team (4-10, 1-2 BIG EAST), fresh off two weekly awards and a win over Georgetown, takes on the No. 5 Connecticut Huskies (11-2, 3-0 BIG EAST), the defending national champions, in a conference tilt on Fri., Oct. 24 at Villanova Stadium. Play is set to begin at 7 p.m.
