Wildcats Finish Season with 4-0 Loss to Connecticut

Villanova, Pa. - The Wildcats fell to the Huskies (16-2, 5-1, Big East) by a score of 4-0 in final game of season Saturday. Villanova finished the year with a record of 12-7 and 2-4 in the Big East. The Huskies got on the board with a goal from Cara Silverman at the 26:54 mark. Silverman was able to tip the ball in on a pass from Lindsey Leck to go up 1-0 at the half. Connecticut struck again in the 39th minute. Lauren Aird was able to score off a rebounded shot to put the Huskies up 2-0. Sophomore Dana Ramsden had an opportunity to score for Villanova on a penalty shot in the second half. Her attempt was unsuccessful after a play by Connecticut goalkeeper Andrea Mainiero kept the ball out of the cage. For their third score of the game, Connecticut's' Leck was successful on a penalty shot at the 49:46 mark. With less than three minutes remaining in the game, the Huskies received another goal from Aird on a rebounded shot into the cage. Sophomore goalkeeper Maura McCormick (Forty Fort, Pa.) recorded seven saves for the Wildcats, four in the first half. McCormick finishes the season with her goals against average at 1.61 and 92 saves.
Saturday was the final game for Villanova senior co-captain Sam Coveleski (Lewes, Del.). Coveleski is a crucial part of the Wildcats defense that has only allowed 30 goals in 19 games this season. With Coveleski in the backfield, Villanova recorded six shutouts while holding opponents to 219 shots this year.
