STORRS, Conn. - In the last game of the 2009 season, the Villanova Wildcats (9-8 overall, 2-4 BIG EAST) fell to the UConn Huskies (17-2 overall, 5-1 BIG EAST) by a score of 5-1 in Storrs, Conn. Redshirt junior Dana Ramsden scored on an unassisted goal while sophomore goalie Megan Goelz recorded 13 saves in the defeat.

The first goal of the game came in dramatic fashion as UConn was awarded a penalty stroke at the 27th minute. Rayell Heistand converted on the shot to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead with eight minutes left to play in the half.

In the 30th minute, Loren Sherer fired a blast from the middle of the circle and gave the Huskies a 2-0 lead going into halftime.

To begin the second half, Connecticut's Ali Blankmeyer gained control of the ball and flicked it into the upper half of the net in the 42nd minute. Ten minutes later, Ramsden scored on an unassisted play from the top of the circle to make the scoreboard 3-1 in favor of the Huskies.

The final two goals came at the 54th and 62nd minute when Loren Sherer earned her second goal of the game of an assist fro Jestine Angelini, and Cara Silverman connected from a Sherer assist for the final goal of the game. At then end of the second half, the final favored the Huskies, 5-1.

Connecticut held a corner and shot advantage by a 12-3 and 38-11 margin, respectively. Villanova goalie Megan Goelz recorded 13 saves while UConn's Andrea Mainiero had four saves in the win.

The game concludes the 2009 season for the Villanova Wildcats.
