Wildcats Rally to Defeat Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell Bison scored first but it was the Villanova Wildcats who emerged with a 3-2 victory on Wednesday night at Graham Field. With the win, the Wildcats improve to 9-4 on the season, while Bucknell falls to 5-9.
Maiko Boyton put the Bison on the board first, scoring an unassisted goal just 4:32 into the contest. Bucknell held their lead until 21:42 when sophomore forward Megan Foster had her chance to score, and did, tying the game at 1-1.
Not long after, sophomore forward Lauren Campanelli put the `Cats in the lead after junior forward Rory Rogers shot the ball from the baseline and Campanelli delivered it into the net at 26:13. The score remained 2-1 going into the half, with Bucknell tallying just two shots on goal to Villanova's four.
After the half, `Nova came back ready to increase its lead, and did, when freshman midfielder Jenny Nelson scored her first career goal when she caught a rebound from goalie Liz Jordan and increased the Wildcat lead to two goals.
The Bison answered back at 61:30 and cut Villanova's lead to one goal when Chyncia Smith caught a break in defenders and capitalized on the chance to score.
The `Cats were able to hold of Bucknell's last scoring efforts to preserve the win. In the end, Villanova out shot the Bison 22-10. Goalie Erin Scott came away with three saves, facing just five shots on goal.
Villanova returns to action on Friday night in Chestnut Hill, Mass. when it faces off against BIG EAST rival Boston College at 7 p.m. The Eagles are currently 1-2 in the conference and 10-4 overall, while `Nova is 2-1 in the BIG EAST and tied for second place.
