Villanova Falls to La Salle, 2-0

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats (7-5, 1-2 BIG EAST) fell to the La Salle Explorers (5-9) 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at DeVincent Field in Philadelphia, Pa. La Salle's Janel Paukovits and Kara Harpel are credited with the second half goals that propelled the Explorers in the victory. Villanova dominated the first half of play coming up with a 5-0 corner and 7-2 shot advantage over the Explorers. Neither team could find the back of the net in the beginning 35 minutes as Villanova's Megan Goelz had two saves in the first half and La Salle's Emma Ruth accounted for 3 of her own. The second half of play was tilted in favor of La Salle as they held a 10-4 penalty corner advantage over the Wildcats as well as an 8-3 shot advantage. To break the 0-0 score, La Salle's Kelly Dougherty connected with Harpel in the 57th minute to give the Explorers a 1-0 lead. Six minutes later, Janel Paukovits found the back of the cage off an assist from Harpel to give La Salle a 2-0 lead; good for the end score and victory. Villanova's Megan Goelz had 3 saves in the loss and La Salle goalie Emma Ruth came up with 6 saves for the win. The Wildcats are back in action on Friday, Oct. 16th as they take on the Georgetown Hoyas at American University. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
