Wildcats Defeated 3-1 by No. 11 Louisville

Louisville, Ky. - The Wildcats (10-3, 1-2 Big East) were defeated 3-1 by No. 11 Louisville (8-4, 3-1 Big East) Friday. Villanova jumped out to an early lead against the Cardinals with a goal from freshman Abby Sordoni (Shavertown, Pa.) but they were unable to hang on to their halftime lead.

Sordoni started things off for Villanova with a score at the 26:27 mark to record her sixth goal this season. She was able to get the ball past Louisville goalie Heather Bustanoby, after a rebounded shot by Sophomore Meg Ryan (Wayne, Pa.), to put the Wildcats up 1-0 at the end of the first period.

Louisville came back from the first half strong, as they scored their first goal less than six minutes into the half. Tuli Lim was able to tip the ball in to tie the game at one.

In the 48th minute, the Cardinals were able to connect again with a goal by Nikki Auker on a deflected penalty corner shot. Two minutes later they put the game out of reach for the Wildcats. Karah Nall tallied a goal for Louisville giving them a 3-1 lead in the 50th minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maura McCormick (Forty Fort, Pa.), who entered the game with the best save percentage in the country, recorded five saves in contest bringing hear season total to 55.

This game marked only the second time this season that the Wildcats were out shot by their opponents. Louisville took 16 shots compared to eight by Villanova. The Wildcats also had only five corners in the contest, compared to Louisville's 13, one of which resulted in a score.

Today's match up was the fifth in the schools history. Louisville leads the series 1-4-0.

The Wildcats will stay in Louisville for their next match up. They will take on James Madison Saturday at 2 p.m.
