Box Score

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Sophomore Emily Donaldson and freshman Sam Haas each scored two goals en route to No. 20 Villanova's 6-3 win over BIG EAST opponent Georgetown this afternoon at Villanova Stadium. The Wildcats improve to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play as they continue their quest to capture a BIG EAST title, while the Hoyas drop to 2-11 on the season and 0-4 in the conference.

Villanova jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first half off goals by Donaldson, and freshmen classmates Lauren Wuzzardo and Sam Haas. Donaldson opened the game with a goal in the 12th minute of play off a pass from junior forward Allison Boris. Wuzzardo and Haas then scored back-to-back goals within two minutes to extend the Wildcats' lead to three.

However, with time winding down in the first half, the Hoyas hustled down the field to force a penalty corner with nine seconds left on the clock. Georgetown's Willemijn Wijsman sent the ball to the top of the circle to teammate Lauren Sheets, who then sent a short pass left to Maggie Farrand. Farrand fired a shot past Villanova goalkeeper Maura McCormick as time expired to make the score 3-1 at the half.

As the second half got underway, Georgetown continued to chip away at Villanova's lead as Lindsay Moramarco redirected a straight shot from Farrand to cut their deficit to one goal. However, the Wildcats refused to sit back on their heels. Villanova rallied to score two unanswered goals, again within two minutes of one another, to increase their lead to 5-2.

With about 12 minutes left in regulation, the Wildcats continued to dominate as they fired shots upon the cage to boost their game total to 25. However, a small defensive breakdown in the 59th minute allowed for an unassisted goal taken down by the endline by Georgetown's Micaela O'Toole to make the score 5-3.

Villanova once again answered back three minutes later as sophomore back Steffi Caniglia carried the ball into the circle before making a pass to freshman Ally Smith, who notched the sixth and final goal for the Wildcats.

Villanova remains at home this weekend as they host BIG EAST rival Louisville on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.
