Final Stats

VILLANOVA, Pa.- Junior Rory Rogers (Rosemont, Pa./Sacred Heart Academy) scored three goals and left the Monmouth Hawks (6-7) with a battered defense as the Villanova Wildcats (7-3) leapt to their fourth consecutive victory, defeating the Hawks 6-1, Tuesday afternoon at Villanova Stadium.

After Lauren Campanelli (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) scored an unassisted goal 1:38 into the contest, the score remained 1-0 despite the Hawks being heavily out shot by the Wildcats (22-6), until Rogers scored three unanswered goals in less than ten minutes to close out the half.

Rogers scored her first goal at 21:29 off a pass from Sara Schmidt (Mullica Hill, N.J./Wilmington Friends) during a scramble in front of the goal. She then found the back of the net again at 28:10 after Sarah Francis (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) passed Rogers the ball and she tipped it off her stick past Monmouth goalie Carrie Colbert. Less than two minutes later, at 29:29, Rogers scored again, this time netting the goal from behind her as the shot sailed off her stick directly into the net.

After the half, a goalie switch by the Hawks, Villanova's offensive showcase did not stop. The Wildcats would score twice more, as Megan Foster (Berlin, N.J./Bishop Eustace) and Campanelli each added another goal to their growing season totals. Foster's goal came at 42:59 when she finished a shot that Francis had started. Francis's ball stopped just at the goal line and Foster knocked it in.

Monmouth's only goal came at 67:31 when Susan Ganghamer (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township) broke free from the pack of players and scored an unassisted goal. Villanova answered back with Campanelli's second goal of the afternoon, as she scrambled past goalie Sarah Mutter and capitalized off a pass from Natalie Balthrop (Chicago, Ill./Lake Forest).

In addition to Francis's two assists, she also recorded a defensive save on the afternoon. Goalie Erin Scott (Malvern, Pa./West Chester East) came in with six saves but had many would-be shots stopped because of strong defensive play by Simone Schunk (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown Area) and Vanessa Pizzulli (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional).

Villanova returns to action on Friday, October 8, when they host BIG EAST rival, No. 15 Syracuse. Game time is 7:00 PM.
