West Long Branch, N.J. - The Wildcats recorded their tenth win of the season after defeating Monmouth (1-9) 5-1 on Wednesday. Villanova had a season high five goals all scored by different players. Sophomore goalie Maura McCormick (Forty Fort, Pa.) tallied four saves as the Wildcats won their sixth straight game.

Sophomore Dana Ramsden (Woolwich Twp., N.J.) gave Villanova an early lead with a goal less than a minute into the game. Ramsden notched her ninth goal of the season.

The Wildcats scored again in the 34th minute to end the half up 2-0. Junior Jenn Nazarethian (Medford, N.J.) put the ball in the cage after a rebounded shot by Villanova. This was the second goal of the season for Nazarethian.

Villanova came on strong to start the second half scoring their third goal in less than three minutes. Sophomore Meredith Sabatini (Haddonfield, N.J.), who had two assists in the game, set up the ball perfectly for freshman Abby Sordoni (Shavertown, Pa.). Sordoni is second in goals for Villanova as she now as five.

Sabatini's second assist came at the 41:50 mark to put the Wildcats ahead 4-0. Junior Emily Donaldson (Glassboro, N.J.) inserted the ball on a penalty corner and was able to score after a play set up by Sabatini.

Monmouth's Molly Passarella scored the only goal for the Hawks in the 46th minute of the game. Enza Mazza who led Monmouth with four shots, assisted Passarella on the play.

Villanova capped off their largest win of the season with a goal 67 minutes into the game. Sophomore Lauren Wuzzardo (Bridgeton, N.J.) scored after making a spin move to put the Wildcats up 5-1.

 

 

McCormick, who has only allowed eight goals in the Wildcats 11 games, entered the contest with the best save percentage in the country, as she continues to lead the Wildcats from the cage. Freshman Megan Goelz (Yardley, Pa.) played 17:42 for Villanova as she recorded the first save of her college career.

The Wildcats return to action Saturday October 4th for their second BIG EAST Conference game of the season. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Villanova Stadium.
