Box Score

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Senior forward Megan Foster (Berlin, N.J.) reached 20 goals in a season for the second straight year, scoring just two minutes into the second half to lift Villanova (10-3) to a 1-0 victory over La Salle (3-8) on Saturday afternoon at Villanova Stadium.

After a scoreless first half which featured just three combined shots from the two teams, the Wildcats struck early in the second period on Foster's goal. A pass from junior midfielder Catherine Somits (West Chester, Pa.) set up the Villanova goal and helped extend the team's winning streak to six games.

The Wildcats have outscored their opponents 25-7 during the six-game stretch, although today's victory marked the first shutout in the streak. Senior goalkeeper Alex Whalen (Basking Ridge, N.J.) played the entire game in the net and made one save to register her second shutout of the season.

Villanova came out firing in the second half and outshot the Explorers by an 8-1 margin in the period. The Wildcats had gotten off just two shots in a scoreless first half, as several offensive opportunities in the circle were cleared by La Salle before a shot could be taken.

The Explorers, meanwhile, were unable to generate consistent attack opportunities of their own, taking one shot in each half and generating only one penalty corner. Villanova had seven corners in the game.

The Wildcats have just one game left in their six-game homestand, a 7 p.m. contest against Syracuse on Friday evening. Villanova will honor its seniors in a ceremony prior to the game against the Orange.
