Final Stats

LOWELL, Mass. - Maddy Harding netted two goals as the Villanova field hockey team (3-6) shutout UMass-Lowell (1-8), 3-0, in Lowell, Mass., Sunday afternoon.

Junior forward Jessica Swoboda started the scoring at 18:33. Freshman forward Kristen Mericle sent in a shot and Swoboda tipped in the rebound. Swoboda leads the team in points (11), and finished the game with four points (1G, 2A).

Harding scored her first goal of the game at 31:50. Swoboda sent in a penalty corner, which was stopped by junior forward Leah High.

Harding's second goal came in the last minute of the game in the same fashion as her first. Swoboda's corner attempt was stopped by High and sent in past Melanie Hopkins by Harding.

Harding finished the game with eight shots, seven on goal. The junior back is tied with Swoboda for the team lead in goals (4) and is second on the team in points (10).

Senior goalkeeper Alex Diekmann earned her first shutout of the season, making two saves. Junior Abigail Freitag and Swoboda were each credited with a defensive save, while Harding made two.

Despite the Wildcats' offensive success, they tied the River Hawks in shots, 14-14. UMass-Lowell held a 16-10 advantage in penalty corners.

The Wildcats take a short trip to Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
