Villanova, Pa. - Despite an early goal off a Dana Ramsden and Emily Donaldson breakaway, the Wildcats suffered their first loss of the season vs. #16 Old Dominion University (2-0) at the Powhatan Sports Complex. The Lady Monarchs scored six unanswered goals en route to a 7-1 victory, leading them to their second consecutive win of the season.
The goals came early and quickly in the first half for both teams as Old Dominion posted a goal at the 3:12 mark. ODU sophomore Rachel Stream capitalized off assists from Katie Ueberroth and Hannah Warren to begin a stream of five successful corners for the Lady Monarchs. Just two minutes later, the Wildcats reciprocated from a fast break between senior captain Emily Donaldson and redshirt junior Dana Ramsden. Ramsden finished to the far post, catching Monarch goalie Kelly Driscoll off guard to even the score 1-1.
Old Dominion took a 2-1 lead at the 35:00 minute mark off another penalty corner with sophomore Kathryn Kirk deflecting a loose ball into the goal to pull ahead at the end of the first half.
ODU ended the second half with five unanswered goals. The Lady Monarchs totaled two goals each from Rachel Stream and Kathryn Kirk with additional help from Kathleen Shea, Stephanie Kratzer and Samantha Richardson.
The Wildcats continue their season with another road trip on Saturday, September 5th at 2pm vs. Ball State at Fairfield University, followed by a matchup on Sunday, September 6th at 1pm vs. Fairfield.
