DiMaggio Named Big East Rookie-of-the-Week

VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Villanova freshman forward Nicole DiMaggio (West Chester, PA./ Unionville) was named the Big East Field Hockey Rookie-of-the-Week for her play last week.

Led by DiMaggio, the Villanova field hockey team (4-9) broke a six-game losing streak by blanking the Holy Cross 3-0, on Sunday, Oct.5. Against the Crusaders, DiMaggio was unstoppable scoring three goals bringing her season total to six. With one minute remaining in the first half, she scored her first goal to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead at intermission. In the second half, DiMaggio scored two goals in just over 11 minutes, giving her the team lead in goals scored.

DiMaggio also scored one goal in Villanova's 5-2 loss against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Wednesday, Oct. 1.

A West Chester, Pa., native and a graduate of Unionville High School, DiMaggio has started in each of the Wildcats 13 games this season. She is tied for the team lead in total points with 12 on the season.
