Field Hockey Week-In-Review
The Villanova field hockey team finished the week with a 1-1 record, after a narrow 2-1 loss to Lafayette on Wednesday, Sept. 3, and a 4-1 victory over Towson State on Saturday, Sept. 6, bringing their season record to 2-2.
At Lafayette, the Wildcats were down 2-0 with 6:21 remaining, when sophomore Katie Craig scored her second goal of the year to pull Villanova within one. The Wildcats were unable to score again, however, and dropped a close game to the Leopards 2-1. On defense for the Cats, Sarah Wiggin totaled eight saves.
On Saturday, the Cats traveled to Towson State and brought home a 4-1 win to reach the .500 mark at 2-2. With 9:31 to go in the first half, Craig scored her third goal of the season to put the Cats up 1-0. In the third period with the score tied 1-1, Craig scored her second goal of the game and fourth of the season to give the Wildcats a lead, which they would never relinquish.
Freshman Nicole DiMaggio and sophomore Mary Krauss added goals late to pad the Villanova lead. In goal, Sarah Wiggin tallied a season-high 16 saves.
The Wildcats play at home next on Tuesday, September 9, against Temple at 7 pm.
