Villanova Advances
June 22, 1998
LONDON, England--In crew action at the prestigious Henley Regatta held just outside London, England, the Villanova women turned in exceptional performances as three different Wildcat boats advanced to Sunday's competition.
The Wildcat College Eight boat started the day off in fine fashion with a win over St. Bart's of Royal London by a five minute and 19 second margin to advance to the second round. In round two, the Wildcats continued to dominate, turning in the day's fastest College eight time and advancing to Sunday's quarterfinals with a win over Lady Margaret who finished five minutes and eight seconds behind Villanova.
In College Four action, Villanova recorded a five minute and 50 second victory over Jesus College of Cambridge.
Entering a duo who had never competed in the Pair division, Villanova easily outdistanced its opponent by a six minute and 10 second span.
All three Wildcat boats will participate in the quarterfinals to be held in the morning on Sunday, June 21. The semifinals and finals are scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
Villanova was selected to represent the Sunoco Dad Vail Regatta at Henley by The Dad Vail Regatta Organizing Committee. The committee selects the schools that competed well in the Dad Vail and which in their opinion can best represent the Dad Vail in competition with some of the leading college crews in the world.
