Novice Crews Step to Forefront at Orange Plus Cup

SYRACUSE, NY - On Saturday, May 5, the Villanova Wildcat women's rowing team competed in the 2001 Orange Plus Cup against Syracuse University and the University of Massachusetts. The Wildcats novice four and second novice eight crews excelled in the regatta earning victories in their respective races. The Orangewomen of Syracuse captured the Orange Plus Cup after earning the victory in the varsity eight. Villanova's novice crews rowed to the forefront in both races, betting Syracuse by 44 seconds in the Novice Four and Massachusetts by 35 seconds in the Second Novice Eight. The Wildcats also saw their first novice eight crew finish in second after posting a time of 8:02.9. In the major events, the varsity eight and varsity four, both Wildcat crews finished in third place behind Syracuse and Massachusetts both times. The #6 ranked Orangewomen varsity eight boat emerged victorious to continue their spring unbeaten streak. Villanova will be back in action on May 11-12 when they compete in the prestigious Dad Vail Collegiate Championships in Philadelphia, PA.
