Villanova Crew Finishes Third at Georgetown Invitational for Big East Schools
April 30, 2000 Washington, D.C. - The Villanova University crew team traveled to the Georgetown University Invitational Rowing Regatta for Big East Schools on Sunday, April 30, and had a strong showing, finishing in third place overall with 45 points. In the Varsity Eight event, the Wildcats came through with their best performance ever at the Big East event, finishing in second place with a time of 6:20.06, exactly four seconds behind Syracuse. Overall, Georgetown won the Invitational for the seventh consecutive year, taking home the Don D. Cadle Trophy for overall points. Villanova had a number of fine finishes besides the second place in the Varsity Eight, inlcuding a second in the Women's Varsity Lightweight Four where the 'Cats rowed 7:49.25, just four second behind Georgetown's pace. In the Women's Varsity Lightweight Eight, the Wildcats again came in second place behind the Hoyas, this time with a clocking of 6:50.47. The Wildcat women also grabed second place in the Women's Frosh/Novice Four. On the men's side, Villanova ended up fourth in the Varsity Lightweight Eight and third in the Men's Frosh/Novice Eight. In non-scoring events, Villanova's women took third in the Second Varsity Eight Petite, while the 'Nova men captured fourth place in the Varsity Eight Petite.
