Women's Rowing Places Seventh at Inaugural Big East Challenge

WORCESTER, MA- On Sunday, April 29, the Villanova Wildcat women's rowing team competed in the first annual Big East Women's Rowing Challenge, held on Lake Quinsigamond. The Wildcats entered crews in the event's six races - second novice eight, novice four, novice eight, varsity four, second varsity eight, and varsity eight. Villanova received phenomenal performances from their second novice eight and novice four en route to posting 54 points and finishing sixth in the nine-team regatta. Syracuse captured the challenge title by recording 107 points. Villanova captured the victory in the second novice eight, by racing to a time of 7:15.89. The second place finisher, Georgetown, crossed less than a second later with a time of 7:16.48. The Wildcats continued to excel in the novice events, placing second and fifth in the novice four. The Villanova 'A' crew finished second with a time of 8:02.4, just six seconds behind the Hoyas of Georgetown. The Wildcat 'B' crew placed fifth with a finishing time of 8:43.22. In the varsity eight, Villanova finished sixth after posting a time of 6:58.71. Syracuse won the event with a mark of 6:29.59. The Wildcats also placed in two other events, the novice eight and second varsity eight. In the novice eight, Villanova posted a time of 7:28.40 for seventh place, while in the second varsity eight they finished eighth.
