Crew Competes at San Diego Classic and Occoquan Sprints

SAN DIEGO, Ca-The Villanova women's crew team traveled this past weekend to San Diego, Calif. to compete in the San Diego Crew Classic and to Lorton, Va. to compete in the Occoquan Sprints, with both events being held on Sunday, April 5. With yet another outstanding performance at both events, the Wildcats brought a first and a third place finish back to the Main Line. At the San Diego Crew Classic, Villanova's top finish came in the Women's Collegiate Lightweight Grand Final. The Cats came in third place with a time of 7:03.11, finishing behind Radcliffe (6:56.80) and Princeton (6:59.16). In the day's other event, the Women's Cal Cup Grand Final, Villanova finished in fifth place with a time of 7:04.61. Across the country on the same day, the Wildcats also competed in the Occoquan Sprints. It was in Lorton, Va., where Villanova had their top finish, as the Cats brought home a first place mark in the women's novice eight. The Wildcats finished in 9:47.32, to beat UMBC, Davidson and George Mason. In the women's novice "B" eight, Villanova finished in second place (8:24.84), less than 20 seconds behind first place Virginia Tech. The last event of the afternoon was the women's novice "A" eight. The Wildcats finished in third place in the event (8:32.52), behind first place William & Mary and runner-up Johns Hopkins. Villanova will travel to Camden, N.J. to resume their schedule, where they will compete in the LaSalle Invitational on Saturday, April 18.
