VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova will be looking to extend its winning streak to eight games in a row when the Wildcats host Big Five rival Temple on Friday, Dec. 21. The Wildcats enter play with an 8-1 overall record, while Temple is 5-4 on the season.
Villanova enters play on Friday versus Temple with an all-time Philadelphia Big Five record of 98-35 for a .736 winning percentage. The 98 wins are the most by any Big Five women's program. Saint Joseph's is second with 95 Big Five victories.
Temple is the third Atlantic 10 opponent of the season for the Wildcats. Villanova is currently 2-0 versus the Atlantic 10 this year with wins over LaSalle (49-44) and Saint Joseph's (55-51). In the history of the program, Villanova is 90-59 (.604) against teams from the Atlantic 10. The Wildcats have won six in a row versus the Atlantic 10.
Villanova is led by senior forward Laura Sweeney who leads the team in scoring (12.4 ppg.), rebounding (6.1 rpg.), field goal percentage (.573), steals (18) and blocks (14). Senior guard Rachel Roberts ranks second in scoring at 10.9 points per game, while freshman Caroline Coyer has a team-best 27 assists.
