Villanova travels to Fairfield University on Wednesday evening for a non conference contest. The Wildcats enter play ranked No. 22 in the latest Associated Press poll with a 7-0 record, while Fairfield is 3-5 on the year. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
Wednesday night’s game at Fairfield will be Villanova’s eighth game of the year and sixth that will be played away from home. The Wildcats will play 10 of the first 12 games on the road. Villanova is currently 2-0 in true road games, 3-0 in neutral site games and 2-0 at home.
Villanova moved up three spots in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 to No. 22. After joining the poll last week for the first time since 2004, the Wildcats went 2-0 with wins over Princeton and Saint Joseph’s.
Sophomore guard Kelly Jekot was sensational in Sunday’s win over Saint Joseph’s. In 31 minutes of action, Jekot scored a career-high 27 points on 11-of-17 shooting from the field, including a 2-of-6 effort from three-point range and a 3-of-3 performance from the foul line. She also tallied a career-high six assists, five rebounds, two blocks and one steal. In the first half, she scored 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting.
For her efforts in wins over Princeton and Saint Joseph’s last week, Jekot was named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll. In the two victories, Jekot averaged 15.5 points per game, 3.5 assists per contest and 3.0 rebounds per game.
Villanova is led in scoring by Jekot with a 13.9 points per game average and junior guard Adrianna Hahn who is averaging 12.3 points per game. Senior center Megan Quinn leads the Wildcats in rebounding at 6.4 rebounds per contest.
