Villanova Takes on Big 5 Rival La Salle Sunday

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova will host LaSalle in its Philadelphia Big Five opener on Sunday afternoon at The Pavilion. The Wildcats have won four in a row and are 5-1 overall. LaSalle enters play with a 1-6 record, including a 0-1 Big Five mark. All fans attending the game are encouraged to donate a new, unwrapped toy as part of the Villanova Basketball Toy Drive. Everybody who donates a toy will receive a free ticket voucher to an upcoming women's basketball game.
The Last Meeting

This will be the 42nd all-time meeting between the Wildcats and Explorers. Villanova leads the all-time series by a count of 32-9. The `Cats have won the last three in the series. LaSalle's last win over Villanova came on Nov. 14, 2008, when the Explorers tallied a 67-62 overtime decision at The Pavilion in the season opener. Villanova is led by senior forward Laura Sweeney who leads the team in scoring (14.7 ppg.), rebounding (5.8 rpg.), field goal percentage (.667) and steals (15). Senior guard Rachel Roberts has registered five consecutive double figure scoring games and is second on the team in scoring with an 11.3 points per game average.

On Sunday, Dec. 4, the Villanova Wildcats traveled to La Salle University where they tallied a 67-51 victory. The Wildcats have now won three in a row to improve to 6-2 on the season, while the Explorers fall to 2-7. With the win, Villanova is 1-0 in Philadelphia Big Five play. La Salle falls to 1-1 in City Series action.
