VILLANOVA, Pa. - It will be a battle of undefeated teams on Sunday afternoon at The Pavilion as the 4-0 Villanova Wildcats play host to the 4-0 Lafayette Leopards. Game time is set for 2 p.m. After playing the first four games away from home, Sunday's contest will be Villanova's home opener.
Despite being just 63 miles apart, Villanova and Lafayette have played just five times in women's basketball. Sunday's game will be just the second meeting between the schools since the 1989-90 season. Villanova leads the all-time series by a 4-1 count. The Wildcats won last year's game in Easton, Pa., by a 73-34 score.
Lafayette will be the second Patriot League opponent for Villanova this season. The Wildcats tallied a 79-73 overtime win at Patriot League member Lehigh on Thursday, Nov. 14. In the history of the program, Villanova owns a 20-7 record versus teams that currently make-up the Patriot League. The 20-7 includes 6-1 vs. Lehigh; 4-1 vs. Lafayette; 2-2 vs. Holy Cross, 2-0 versus American, Bucknell and Navy and 2-3 against Loyola (Md).
Villanova is led in scoring by junior center Emily Leer who is averaging 15.0 points per game. The Wildcats have two other players averaging double figures in points including senior guard Devon Kane (13.3 ppg.) and junior forward Lauren Burford (10.0 ppg.). Sophomore forward Kavunaa Edwards leads the team in rebounds at 7.0 per game.
