Women's Basketball Looks to Continue Winning Streak at Sacred Heart Wednesday

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats will travel to Fairfield, Conn., on Wednesday, Nov. 20, to take on the Sacred Heart Pioneers. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Pitt Center.

Villanova and Sacred Heart will be meeting for just the third time when the two teams play on Wednesday night. The Wildcats won both of the previous meetings (69-52 at Villanova on Dec. 28, 2008; 50-49 at Sacred Heart on Nov. 16).

Late Three-Pointers Lift Wildcats Past Sacred Heart, 50-49, in Season Opener
Senior guard Maria Getty (Centerville, Ohio) and redshirt freshman forward Megan Pearson (West Chester, Pa.) had the final say in a game that featured six ties and eight lead changes, as the duo each made a late three-pointer to help push Villanova (1-0) past Sacred Heart (0-2), 50-49, in the Wildcats season opener on Monday night at the Pitt Center.

Junior center Emily Leer is off to a terrific start to her junior season. After three games, Leer has scored 54 points (18.0 ppg.) and shot 18-of-30 from the field (.600) and 10-of-19 from three-point range (.526). She has also tallied 10 rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks in the first three contests. For her efforts in the first three games of the season, Leer earned a spot on the Big East Weekly Honor Roll.

Led by Leer with her 18.0 points per game average, the Wildcats have three players averaging double figures in points. Senior guard Devon Kane and sophomore guard Caroline Coyer are both averaging 10.7 points per contest. Sophomore forward Kavunaa Edwards leads the team in rebounds at 8.0 per game.
