Game Notes

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova women's basketball will open the 2012-13 season this weekend in the Minnesota Best Buy Classic. Villanova will take on South Dakota State in the first round on Saturday, Nov. 10, and will play either Washington State or the host Gophers on Sunday.

Villanova has played just one game all-time against the three teams competing in this week's tournament. The one meeting was a 76-69 win over Minnesota in December of 1983. The Wildcats have never played South Dakota State or Washington State.

The Wildcats are 27-16 all-time in season openers, including 21-13 under the direction of head coach Harry Perretta.

Senior forward Laura Sweeney is the team's top returner. The preseason All-Big East Honorable Mention selection led Villanova is five statistical categories last year, including scoring (14.4 ppg.), rebounding (7.6 rpg.), field goal percentage (50.4%), steals (52) and blocks (39).

Following this weekend's trip to the twin cities, the Wildcats will return to the east coast and play at Lafayette on Nov. 14.
