VILLANOVA, Pa. - Head coach Harry Perretta and the Villanova women's basketball season held the first practice of the season this afternoon in the Davis Center. The Wildcats went through a spirited two and a half hour session.
The Wildcats return eight letterwinners and three starters from last year's squad. This year's roster consists of 15 players, including two seniors, seven juniors, one sophomore, two redshirt freshmen and three true freshmen.
Led by junior forward Laura Sweeney, Villanova returns 90.0 percent of its scoring from a season ago. Sweeney led the Wildcats a season ago with an 11.5 points per game average. She also led the team in rebounding (6.1 rpg.), field goal percentage (.476), steals (61) and blocks (46). Senior Lindsay Kimmel made a team-high 81 three-point field goals last year, while sophomore Devon Kane tallied a team-best 73 assists.
Villanova opens the 2011-12 season at the Iona Tournament on November 11-12. The Wildcats will play Michigan State in the first round of the tournament and will face either North Carolina A&T or host Iona in the second round.
