VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova University head women's basketball coach Harry Perretta today announced the 2013-14 Wildcat schedule. The Wildcats will play a 29-game schedule, including 18 Big East Conference contests and four Philadelphia Big Five match-ups.
The 2013-14 campaign tips-off on Saturday, Nov. 9, when the Wildcats travel to the Toledo Tournament. Villanova will play Mississippi Valley State in the opener and then face either Toledo or Drexel on Nov. 10.
Following the Toledo Tournament, the team will play back-to-back road games at Lehigh on Nov. 14 and at Sacred Heart on Nov. 20. The Wildcats will open the home portion of their schedule on Nov. 24 when the Lafayette Leopards visit The Pavilion
Villanova will spend Thanksgiving in Miami participating in the Florida International Thanksgiving Classic. The Wildcats are scheduled to play Montana State in the first round on Nov. 29. The second round opponent will either be the host Golden Panthers or Valparaiso.
Following the Thanksgiving trip, Villanova will play three consecutive Philadelphia Big Five games. The `Cats will host Saint Joseph's on Dec. 7 and play at LaSalle on Dec. 15 and at Temple on Dec. 22. The fourth and final Big Five contest will be a home date with Penn on Jan. 15.
The Wildcats will play an 18-game double round-robin Big East Conference schedule. Villanova opens conference play with a two-game Midwest road trip. The trip begins at Creighton on Dec. 28 and concludes at Marquette on Dec. 31. Villanova will host Providence in the Big East opener on Jan. 4.
"We look forward to establishing a new tradition of excellence in women's basketball in the Big East, and the national exposure afforded by our agreement with Fox will play a key role," said Big East Commissioner Val Ackerman. "We have terrific coaches and student-athletes to showcase, and Fox's regular season and postseason game coverage will allow us to bring exciting competitions and compelling stories to our fans."
Villanova is set two make three national television appearances this year as part of the Big East TV package. The game at DePaul on Jan. 19 and the home contest with Georgetown on Feb. 23 will be on Fox Sports 1, while the game at St. John's on Feb. 15 will be televised by the CBS Sports Network.
This year's Big East Tournament is scheduled for March 8-11 in Chicago, Ill. The first round games on March 8 will be held at DePaul's McGrath-Phillips Arena with the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship game to be played at the Allstate Arena.
