Wildcats Roll in Livorno to Improve to 4-0 on Italy Tour
June 2, 2004 LIVORNO, ITALY - The Villanova women's basketball team improved to a perfect 4-0 on its Italy Tour with a 74-38 victory over Girls Basket Livorno on Wednesday, June 2nd, in Livorno, Italy. The Wildcats outscored Livorno 22-2 in the fourth quarter to break the game open and roll to an easy 36-point victory.
Liad Suez led the `Cats in scoring on Wednesday, netting 22 points on eight-of-12 shooting from the field and five-of-eight shooting from the three-point line. Suez now has 52 points, including 12 three-pointers, thus far on the trip. Kate Dessart Mager also scored in double figures for Villanova, posting 10 points on five-of-seven shooting, to go along with six rebounds. Dessart Mager is 18-of-24 from the floor in the team's first four games.
Jackie Adamshick and Jana Rediger played well on both sides of the ball for the Wildcats recording nine points (on four-of-seven shooting) and 10 rebounds apiece. Adamshick has 55 points and 32 rebounds in four games in Italy. Rediger added five steals and two blocks in game four for the `Cats.
Rounding out the scoring for Villanova on Wednesday were Jenna Viani with eight points and five assists, Courtney Roantree with six points and three assists, Staci Whitman with five points and six rebounds, Francis Lamb with three points and Sarita Hatcher with two points. In addition, Jennifer Hilgenberg registered seven assists and five rebounds and Betsy McManus dished out two assists.
The Wildcats shot 30-of-74 from the field for the game, including 11-of-39 from the three-point stripe. Villanovs had 24 assists on its 30 field goals in the game, and turned the ball over just seven times. The `Cats also grabbed 51 rebounds as a team.
Villanova is staying in Pisa tonight, before traveling to Florence tomorrow morning. The Wildcats will tour the city of Florence tomorrow and then travel to Rome where they will conclude the tour with their fifth and final game tomorrow evening against GS Palestrina. Villanova will then spend the rest of trip in Rome before returning to the United States on Sunday.
