VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova University women's basketball program said good bye to the senior members of the team at the annual banquet held on Sunday, May 5. The event was held on campus at the Connelly Center.
Family and friends joined the players and staff for brunch and to honor the Wildcats for their season achievements. The four senior members of the graduating class include Jesse Carey, Megan Pearson, Rachel Roberts and Laura Sweeney.
The highlights of the 2012-13 season included winning 20 games with a 21-11 record, earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament and capturing the Philadelphia Big Five championship with a perfect 4-0 mark.
University President Reverend Peter M. Donohue, O.S.A., opened the speaking portion of the banquet by giving remarks on behalf of the university. Donohue applauded the team for representing the school in such a first class fashion. Head coach Harry Perretta followed Donohue as the event's featured speaker. Perretta praised his team for its strong work-ethic and unselfish play.
Five individual awards were handed out during the banquet. The award winners included junior forward Jessica Wamala (Scholar-Athlete), senior forward Megan Pearson (6th Man Award), senior guard Rachel Roberts (Most Improved), senior guard Jesse Carey (Coaches Award) and senior forward Laura Sweeney (MVP).
