Villanova University junior guard Alex Louin (Doylestown, Pa.) earned a spot on the WNIT All-Tournament Team. Louin earns the honor for her play in the Wildcats five WNIT games. The WNIT names six players out of the 64 team field to the All-Tournament Team.
Louin helped lead the Wildcats to the semifinal round of the WNIT by registering 89 points (17.8 ppg.), 34 rebounds (6.8 rpg.) and 13 assists (2.6 apg.). In the five games, she shot 44.4 percent from the field (28-of-63), 39.1 percent from three-point range (9-of-23) and 85.7 percent from the foul line (24-of-28). Her best effort of the tournament came in a third round win at James Madison when she tallied 24 points and nine rebounds.
The Wildcats tallied four straight road wins over Princeton (59-53), Drexel (56-51), James Madison (69-67 OT) and Indiana (69-57) before losing at Michigan (65-61) in the semifinals. Villanova finished the 2016-17 season with a 20-15 overall record, marking the fifth straight year of 20 wins or more.
Louin led the Wildcats this year in scoring (13.1 ppg.), assists (110) and minutes played (34.8 mpg.), tied for the team lead in both steals (38) and blocks (31), and was second in rebounding at 5.5 rpg. In the second round win over Drexel, Louin became the 26th player in Villanova women’s basketball history to score 1,000 career points. She finished the season with 1,057 points which ranks 22nd on Villanova’s all-time scoring chart.
