VIlLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova will play host to the George Washington Colonials in the second round of the WNIT on Sunday, March 23. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. The Wildcats enter play with a 23-8 overall record, while George Washington is 22-10 on the season.
George Washington leads the all-time series with the Wildcats by a 6-3 count. This will be the first meeting between the schools since Jan. 21, 2010, when the Wildcats tallied a 55-44 home win over the Colonials.
If the Wildcats are fortunate to defeat George Washington, Villanova will advance to the third round and play the winner of the Stetson/South Florida game. That game is scheduled to be played in Tampa, Fla., on Sunday, March 23.
In Wednesday's win over Quinnipiac, senior guard Devon Kane became the 24th player in program history to record 1,000 career points. Kane accomplished the feat when she scored on a driving lay-up with 13:25 remaining in the second half. Entering play against George Washington on Sunday, Kane has 1,007 career points to her credit.
Villanova is led in scoring by Kane who is averaging 13.0 points per game, while sophomore guard Caroline Coyer is second with a 10.3 points per game average. Kane also leads the team in assists with 136 and steals with 38, while junior forward Taylor Holeman owns a team-best 5.2 rebounds per game average.
