VILLANOVA, Pa. - On Monday evening, Villanova learned that it has been chosen to play in the 2008 WNIT. The Wildcats will play host to American on Wednesday evening with the time still to be determined. A total of 48 teams make up the WNIT field.

The Wildcats appearance in the WNIT will be the team's eighth postseason appearance in the last nine seasons. It will also mark Villanova's fifth overall trip to the WNIT and first since 2006. The Wildcats are 2-4 all-time in the WNIT.

The winner of Wednesday night's game will advance to play at Wisconsin in the second round on Saturday, March 22. The Badgers are one of 16 teams in the field with a first-round bye in the bracket.

Villanova enters postseason with a 15-15 overall record. The team's last outing came on Saturday, March 8 when the Wildcats lost to Pittsburgh by a score of 69-63 in the first round of the Big East Tournament. Villanova is led by junior forward Laura Kurz who leads the team in scoring (15.1 ppg.), rebounding (6.2 rpg.) and field goal percentage (.499). For her efforts this past season, Kurz was a second team All-Big East selection.

American earned an automatic bid from the Patriot League and enters the WNIT with an 18-13 overall record.
