Villanova will travel to Chicago, Ill., for the 2018 Big East Women’s Basketball Tournament. The Wildcats will be the three seed in the tournament and will play the six seed Georgetown Hoyas on Sunday, March 4, at 9:30 p.m. eastern time.

In women’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon, the Villanova Wildcats earned a hard fought 68-67 win over the visiting Georgetown Hoyas. With the victory, the Wildcats improve to 18-5 overall and 8-4 in Big East play, while Georgetown falls to 10-12 overall and 5-7 in conference action.

This will be the third match-up of the season between the two teams. Villanova went 2-0 against Georgetown during the regular season with a 60-58 win in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 10 and a 68-67 home victory on Feb. 3.

Three Wildcats garnered All-Big East accolades for their efforts this season. Villanova head coach Harry Perretta was named the league’s Co- Coach-Of-The-Year, senior guard Alex Louin earned second team All-Big East, while sophomore forward Mary Gedaka was the unanimous Sixth Woman of the Year, in addition to earning a spot on the Honorable Mention team  

Villanova will be the No. 3 seed in the Big East Tournament for the fourth time in its history. The Wildcats are 4-2 all-time as the three seed in the conference tournament. Villanova won the Big East championship as the No. 3 seed in 2003 with wins over Notre Dame (50-39), Miami (65-59) and Connecticut (52-48). In 2004, the Wildcats lost to West Virginia (58-47) as the three seed in the quarterfinal round, while in 2015, No. 3 Villanova defeated Butler in the quarterfinals before losing to DePaul in the semifinals.



The Wildcats finished the 2017- 18 regular season with a 12-6 Big East Conference record. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Villanova has registered double digit league wins. Since the new Big East began in 2013-14, Villanova has recorded a 59-31 mark (.655) in conference games.

Villanova is led in scoring by Louin with an 11.9 points per game average. Gedaka is averaging 11.6 points per contest, while sophomore guard Kelly Jekot is averaging 11.4 points per game. Louin has a team-best 6.7 rebounds per game average.
