Two Wildcats Garner Academic Distinction

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Two members of the Villanova University women's basketball team have been honored for their achievements in the classroom. Senior forward Stacie Witman has been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine District II Academic All-American first team, while sophomore guard Maria Getty earned second team distinction.
Witman, who earned a secondary education degree from Villanova in May, 2007, is currently enrolled in the Educational Leadership Master's Degree program at Villanova. Witman has started all 27 games this season for the Wildcats and is currently second on the team in both scoring (14.5 ppg.) and rebounding (5.3 rpg.). She is shooting 43.0 percent from the field (139-of-323), 37.2 percent from three-point range (58-of-156) and 85.9 percent from the foul line (55-of-64).
Getty is enrolled in the business school at Villanova. On the court, she has started all 27 games this season and is averaging 7.1 points per game and has tallied a team-best 82 assists. She is shooting 45.8 percent from the floor (65-of-142) and 43.9 percent from three-point range (43-of-98).
By earning a spot on the District II first team, Witman will now go on the national ballot for Academic All-American honors.
The Wildcats will close out the home portion of the 2007-08 season when Villanova plays host to Marquette on Saturday, March 1. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
