VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova University junior center Emily Leer has been named the Philadelphia Big Five women's basketball player of the week, in addition to earning a spot on the Big East Conference Weekly Honor Roll.
Leer led the Wildcats to a 65-52 win over Georgetown in the team's only game of the week. In the victory, Leer scored a career-high 28 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field, including a 6-of-12 effort from three-point range and a 2-of-4 effort from the foul line. She also had two rebounds, one block, one assist and one steal. The six three-point field goals tie a career-best performance.
This was Leer's third 20-point game of the season. She registered 24 points in a win at Lehigh on Nov. 14 and 21 points in a victory at La Salle on Dec. 15.
Leer has started all 26 games this year and is averaging 9.2 points per game and 3.3 rebounds per contest. She leads the team in blocks with 24 and is second in three-point field goals made with 40.
Villanova returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 25, when the Wildcats play host to DePaul. Tip-off at The Pavilion is set for 7 p.m.
