Head Coach Darcel Estep Prior to her arrival at St. John's, Estep was the head women's basketball coach at Morgan State University. Rebuilding the Morgan State program during her three-year tenure (1996-99), Estep took the Lady Bears to two semifinal appearances in the Mideastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). Estep amassed a 35-49 record as head coach of the Lady Bears. Her 1998-99 team finished seventh in the nation in defense- the first-ever national ranking for the school- allowing just 58.0 points per game. Estep is no stranger to the Big East Conference. Before her stint at Morgan State, she served as the top assistant from 1991-96 at Villanova University under Head Coach Harry Perretta. As a member of his staff she was a major contributor to the Wildcats' success. Not only did Estep contribute to Villanova's success on the court, but also off the court where her strong academic philosophy helped to guide the Wildcats to a 100 percent graduation rate.
