Women's Basketball Returns Home to Host Butler

Villanova will play host to the Butler Bulldogs on Tuesday, Jan. 2. The Wildcats enter play ranked No. 21 with an 11-1 overall record and a 1-1 Big East mark, while the Bulldogs are 8-5 overall and 0-1 in conference action. Tip-off at the Jake Nevin Field House is set for 7 p.m.

Tuesday’s game versus Butler will be just the third home game of the year for Villanova and first since Dec. 3. The Wildcats played 10 of their 12 games away from home and will play five of the first seven Big East Conference games on the road. Villanova will finish the year by playing five of its final seven games at home. The Wildcats are 2-0 at home this year with wins over No. 11 Duke and Saint Joseph’s.

For her efforts in two games last week, sophomore forward Mary Gedaka earned a spot on the Big East Weekly Honor Roll. In two games last week, Gedaka averaged 15.5 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per contest and shot .737 from the field (14-of-19).

Under the direction of head coach Harry Perretta, the Villanova Wildcats have always had the reputation of playing team basketball. Last season, Villanova had an assist on 450 of its 757 made field goals for 59.4 percent. In 12 games this season, the Wildcats have an assist on 165 of 297 baskets for 55.5 percent. In the last two games versus Creighton and Providence, Villanova has been credited with an assist on 32 of its 44 made field goals for 72.7 percent.


 

 

Villanova is led in scoring by junior guard Adrianna Hahn who is averaging 13.3 points per game and sophomore guard Kelly Jekot who is averaging 11.3 points per contest. Senior guard Alex Louin leads the Wildcats in rebounding at 6.1 rebounds per game.
