ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - On Friday, Nov. 28th, in the first game of the Holiday Inn Mountain View Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., the Villanova women's basketball team won its fourth consecutive game on the year, cruising to a 66-45 win over Elon College. With the victory, the Wildcats (4-1) advance to the tournament championship game to take on the winner of Saturday's other first round game, which featured New Mexico against Youngstown State.

With Villanova holding a slim 11-10 lead at the 15:57 mark of the first half, the `Cats went on a 9-0 run to take a 20-10 lead with just 9:18 remaining in the half. The Wildcats would end up taking a 33-24 advantage into intermission.

Elon closed the gap to 35-30 with 14:27 left in the game, but Villanova followed that up by going on a decisive 16-5 run to extend its lea to 51-37 with just 9:27 remaining. Sparking the Wildcat run was Liad Suez, who netted three three-pointers during the spurt.

Elon would not get within 14 points the rest of the way, as Villanova cruised to a 66-45 victory.

Suez led the way for the Wildcats in the win, posting 12 points and going four-of-eight from three-point range. Forward Jackie Adamshick also scored in double figures in the game, recording 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Winding down the scoring for Villanova were senior guard Courtney Mix with nine points (to go along with 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists), senior guard Kelly Nash with nine points on three three-pointers, sophomore Jenna Viani with eight points, sophomore Courtney Roantree with seven points on three-of-five shooting, sophomore Kate Dessart Mager with two points (and 4 rebounds), junior Jana Rediger with five points (to go along with 5 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 2 assists) and sophomore Betsy McManus with four points.

 

 

For Elon in the loss, Colleen Andrews had 16 points and Courtney Nyborg had 12 points.

The Wildcats shot 35.7 percent (25-of-70) from the field, 31.4 percent (11-of-35) from three-point range, and 71.4 percent (5-of-7) from the foul line in the game.

Villanova held Elon to 17-of-49 shooting (34.7 percent) from the field in the contest.

The Wildcats will now take on the winner of New Mexico/Youngstown State in the Holiday Inn Mountain View Invitational Championship Game on Saturday, Nov. 29th, at 8:00 p.m. mountain time and 10:00p.m. eastern time.
