Villanova (1-0) knocked down 9-of-20 3-pointers, including 4-for-8 in the second half. Suez and Adamshick combined to go 8-of-15 from three-point range.
Penn State, which opened its season with losses at Duke and Texas, trailed by as many as 14 in the second half. The Nittany Lions cut the deficit to 68-63 with under a minute to play, but Schwab failed to convert an open layup.
Villanova improved to 25-2 at the Pavilion since 2002, which included a perfect 12-0 season last year and a 59-56 upset win over No. 1 Connecticut.
