VILLANOVA, PA.--- In the exhibition finale for the Villanova women's basketball team on Sunday, Nov. 12, in the Jake Nevin Field House, the Wildcat offense racked up 92 points as they rolled over the New York Gazelles 92-59. The victory gave Villanova a perfect 2-0 record in the exhibition season.

The Wildcats got off to a hot start, opening up a 26-12 advantage with 8:45 remaining in the first half. The Gazelles trimmed the Villanova lead to nine, at 31-22, but the `Cats followed with a 15-0 run to increase their advantage to 46-24. Sophomore forward Katie Davis scored four points for Villanova during the run, as the Wildcats went into the half leading 46-26.

Villanova shot 45 percent from the field in the first half (14-for-31), including nine-for-17 from three-point range. Leading the way for the `Cats was sophomore guard Trish Juhline who scored 14 points on a perfect five-for-five shooting from the field, and Davis who added 13.

The Villanova offense resumed its stellar play in the second half. Holding a 49-32 lead with 17:56 remaining, the Wildcats outscored New York 19-8 in the next 7:35 to extend their lead to 68-40. Villanova shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half (12-for-24), and 17-of-21 from the foul line (81 percent) to surge to a 92-59 victory. The Wildcats finished the game 26-of-55 (47.3 percent) from the field, and 14-of-27 (51.9 percent) from the three-point stripe. The Villanova defense held the Gazelles to 41.7 percent shooting for the game (25-for-60).

Scoring in double figures for the `Cats were Davis with a game-high 20, and Juhline with 17 on six-for-six shooting. Each scoring eight points apiece for Villanova were senior center Brandi Barnes (nine rebounds), junior forward Stephanie Baker, and freshman forward Kelly Nash. Freshman forward Courtney Mix was outstanding as well, scoring seven points and pulling down a game-high 11 boards.

Rounding out the scoring for the Wildcats were Brandi Harris and Lauren Pellicane with six, Mimi Riley and Nicole Druckenmiller with five and Jeanine Johnson with two.

Leading the way for New York in the loss was center Trina Wilson with 13 points, and Dawn Johnson and Lottie Watson with 10.

Villanova will start the regular season on Friday, Nov. 17, playing host to the nationally ranked Penn State Nittany Lions at 7:30 p.m.
