PITTSBURGH, Pa. - A big run to end the first half by Pittsburgh (18-5, 6-4 Big East) was the decisive factor on Tuesday evening, and Villanova (7-16, 1-9 Big East) lost its eighth straight game by a score of 66-53 at the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers took a 40-25 lead into the break and never led by fewer than 13 points in the second half.

Senior Jackie Adamshick (Allentown, Pa.) scored the Wildcats first 13 points in the game, a run that was good enough to give Villanova a 13-10 lead with 11:45 remaining in the opening period. The tables were turned moments later, however, as a jumper by Marcedes Walker ignited a 12-0 run that put Pitt on top for good. The Panthers wound up outscoring the Wildcats 30-12 in the final 10:46 of the first half.

After scoring all 13 of Villanova's points in the first 8:15 of the contest, Adamshick added just two more the rest of the way to finish with a team-best 15 points. She was joined in double figures by junior Stacie Witman (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.), who finished with 11 points and her third straight game in double figures. Sophomore Lisa Karcic (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) added eight points, six rebounds, four assists and three blocks in the game, as the Wildcats had nine different players score in the losing effort.

Villanova got to within 24-18 with 5:56 left in the first half on a layup by redshirt freshman Tia Grant (Lido Beach, N.Y.), but Pitt showcased its offensive prowess from then on, scoring 16 points in the final 4:56 of the stanza to lead 40-25 at halftime.

The Wildcats never got closer than the final 13-point margin in the second half as the Panthers held on to a double-digit margin and turned the ball over a mere three times in the game. Shavonte Zellous scored a game-high 23 points to go along with six rebounds and six assists, while Walker contributed a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Jania Sims had seven points, 10 boards and four assists for Pitt.

Villanova completes a three-game stretch of road games on Sunday when it visits Seton Hall for a game beginning at 2 p.m.
