Villanova, Pa. -
Villanova Director of Athletics, Mark Jackson and Director of Academic Support for Athletics, Jenn Brophy are excited to announce a new Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. Started in the fall of 2016, the honorees earned a 3.20 GPA or better during the semester.
"We are extremely pleased to announce the inaugural Athletic Director's Honor Roll as a way to recognize and congratulate our student-athletes for their outstanding academic achievement,” stated Brophy. “We are proud of the many accomplishments our student-athletes achieved both in the classroom and in athletic competition during the fall semester."
There was a total of 345 student-athletes who had a GPA of 3.20 or greater during the fall semester and earned themselves a spot on the first ever Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. This represents more than 57 percent of student-athletes from all 24 varsity sports.
During the Fall 2016 semester, the overall GPA for all 601 student-athletes was a 3.224 and 22 teams had an average GPA of 3.0 or greater. This was the 27th straight semester with the average GPA greater than a 3.0, which continues to put Villanova among the top schools in the nation for academic achievement.
"Our student-athletes compete and achieve at the highest levels on the fields of play, in the community, and in the classroom. I could not be more proud of our student-athletes for their academic success and of the Athletic Department staff that supports them," stated Jackson. “The Athletic Director's Honor Roll is another way to celebrate their incredible achievement scholastically and we could not be more excited to initiate this annual recognition.”
