Oct. 28, 2003
PAWS (Providing Athletes With Support) kicked off its 2003 Adopt-a-Team program during homecoming, and the initial weekend was a success. The purpose of the program is for Villanova's athletic teams to support each other during games and matches.
The baseball team began the program as they supported the football team in its quest for a national championship. Unfortunately, Villanova suffered its first loss of the season as they were defeated by #5 UMass.
However, Villanova athletics rebounded with wins from the women's and men's soccer teams, and the field hockey team. The Villanova women's lacrosse team cheered on the women's soccer team in their 2-0 win over Pittsburgh that earned them a berth in the 2003 Big East Tournament. In the second part of Sunday's soccer doubleheader on west campus, the softball team supported the men's soccer team in its mission to qualify for the Big East Tournament. The Wildcats defeated Providence and have one more Big East game remaining against Notre Dame.
Also, the men's and women's tennis teams were at Villanova Stadium to see the field hockey team defeat Providence and clinch a tie for the Big East regular season title.
The next Adopt-a-Team events will be the women's volleyball team's home matches. The men's basketball team will be in attendance. Villanova athletics would like to thank everyone for their participation in the Adopt-a-Team program.
