Feb. 26, 2003

Each year the NCAA and the National Consortium for Academics and Sports co-sponsor National Student-Athlete Appreciation Week to recognize the achievements, both academic and athletic, of this exemplary group. As always, the main event in Villanova's celebration is the Student-Athlete Appreciation Luncheon to be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2003. Each coach is asked to select a representative who best exemplifies the term Student-Athlete to attend the luncheon.

Congratulations to the 2003 Team Representatives:
Stephane Ariot - W. Tennis
Andreas Bloch - M. Basketball
Ryan Costella - M. Swimming
Lauren Dachille - W. Lacrosse
Katie Davis - W. Basketball
Tori Delollo - W. Swimming
Ryan Devine - M. Tennis
Greg Fater - Baseball
Jocelyn Fontaine - W. Track & Field
Matt Gugino - Golf
Ryan Hayden - M. Track & Field
Laura Johnson - W. Soccer
Matt Lucas - M. Lacrosse
Alana Milazzo - Rowing
Kriste Romano - Softball
Jennifer Rosick - Water Polo
Kristen Strocen - Field Hockey
Sylvia Taggart - Volleyball
Sean Teesdale - M. Soccer
Jamison Young - Football

The luncheon also includes the presentation of the Sister Mary Margaret Cribben Award. Established in 1985, the award honors "the student-athlete who unselfishly sacrifices time, effort, body, and soul to lead and motivate his/her teammates in excelling for Villanova University through inspiration". Last year's winners were Field Hockey's Brooke Bergmann and B.J. Johnson of Men's Basketball.

Additionally, Villanova has added a new component to this year's events: coaches attending classes. Thanks to the cooperation of the university's deans and professors, Villanova's coaches will get a taste of what their student-athletes experience everyday by attending class with one member of their team.

National Student-Athlete Appreciation Week is an opportunity for Villanova to not only recognize its student-athletes, but those who have helped in their accomplishments. It will be celebrated the week of April 6, 2003.
