Villanova Moves Up to No. 3 in Mid-Atlantic Region
Nov. 3, 2010
On the heels of a successful outing at last weekend's BIG EAST Championships, the Villanova men's cross country team has moved up one spot to No. 3 in the Mid-Atlantic region, according to this week's USTFCCCA regional poll. In the national poll, the Wildcats hold steady at No. 29 in the nation.
Villanova finished in fourth place at the BIG EAST Championships but was first among the five conference teams that are in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Georgetown came in sixth at the conference meet and switched places with the Wildcats in this week's regional poll.
The current week's regional rankings are a rough barometer of where teams stand heading into the NCAA Regional races next weekend. Villanova is a team on the rise not only in the rankings but on the course as well, as the team had its full contingent of runners in action at the same time at the BIG EAST meet for the first time this season.
With the conference meet in the rear-view mirror, the Wildcats are now gearing up for the Mid-Atlantic regional championships at Penn State next Saturday, where the top two teams will automatically advance to the national championship meet. There are a total of nine regional championships and 18 automatic championship bids awarded, while another 13 teams earn at-large selections to the national meet.
Next weekend's regional championship race begins at 1:15 p.m.
